How much is your company’s Cost per Purge?
I’ve worked with hundreds of thermoplastic processing plants for nearly sixteen years now, and generally, it’s unknown. I’m always surprised, to say the least!
To help your company determine what its Cost per Purge is, I’ve listed three quick and easy steps:
- Determine the machine downtime cost by determining how long it takes to complete a purge times what the estimated machine’s running costs is. You know the old saying, “Time is money.”
- Determine total purge materials costs by determining how much purge material used for an effective purge times what the purge material price per pound is. In addition, determine how much replacement resin is used to flush the purge material out times what the replacement material price per pound is. Add those two figures.
- Determine the Cost to Purge by adding Step 1 & Step 2
Now capture and measure different purge methods to compare different daily, weekly and monthly savings! I do realize this is just one simple method and there are many more advanced ones out there. It’s just a helpful starting point.
