[Plastics Today] A new glass-filled high-temperature grade of purging compound has a service temperature range of 518°F - 788°F (270°C - 420°C) letting it take on ultra-high-heat engineering resins, like PEEK (polyetheretherketone), PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), Ultem (polyetherimide), and LCP (liquid crystal polymer) and clean out injection molding machines and extruders.
Sun Plastech Inc.'s (Parsippany, NJ) Asaclean PX was specifically designed for thorough cleaning at higher processing temperatures while emitting low smoke and odor, which can be common occurrences when purging high-heat resins. For hot runner cleaning or machine shutdowns, Asaclean also offers SX Grade, an unfilled grade with a service temperature range of 570°F - 735°F (300°C - 390°C).
In business since 1996, Sun Plastech serves thermoplastic injection molders and extruders across North and South America and is part of Japan's Asahi KASEI Chemicals Corp. A Sun Plastech spokesperson told PlasticsToday that following the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, three of Asahi KASEI's facilities in the northern region of Tohoku were affected, shutting down production temporarily, but no workers were injured. None of these plants were production sites for Asaclean products, and although some of those products are imported from Japan, the spokesperson said Sun Plastech did not experience any delayed shipments or shortages.
