With the price of Production Resins sky rocketing, why wouldn’t you try to reduce your material waste? Over the last 6 to 7 months raw materials has climbed substantially, and there's no end in sight. This is even more reason to try and save where you can.
Manifolds are one easy area to do so.
So many molders do not purge their manifolds. This could be out of fear, or simply just out of a lack of knowledge. I never understood this because they are putting resin through the manifold every shot.
A solid Shut Down and Seal Program is a good preventative process to get into the habit of.
Most molders I have worked with in the past have always cleaned the machine at start up, after the tool change. Getting the color set up and purged through to start their production run.
Let me throw something at you. What if you cleaned the screw & barrel, and manifold at tool changes, before, you pull the mold. This make’s for easier startups with less waste.
Make sure you have spoken to an Asaclean technical sales rep for what grades you can and should be sealing with.
Shut down and seal works.
It’s easy -- Once production is finished, purge the screw and barrel with Asaclean purge. Once the purge is clean then purge through the manifold. Once manifold is clean stop and pull the tool. Thus, leaving the purge material in your manifold.
